More than $80,000 in college scholarships has been awarded to high school and college students pursuing education relating to careers within the construction, engineering, architecture and connected trade industries since 2005, under the leadership of the Collier Building Industry Association (CBIA) through its Collier Building Industry Foundation (CBIF), a 501(c) 3 organization to support educational and charitable philanthropic activities.
According to CBIA executive director, Kathy Curatolo, CBIF scholarship applicants are students in good standing and recommended by their teachers or returning students with a strong interest in the construction industry and/or related trades who desire to pursue higher education opportunities. CBIF President, Dave Dunnavant (Peninsula Construction and Engineering) announced the following four students have been awarded CBIF scholarships for the 2019-20 school year:
- Jacob German received a $1,000 scholarship to continue his study in architecture at Florida Atlantic University
- John Granholm received a $2,000 scholarship to continue his study in construction management at the University of Florida
- Salvador Jasso, Immokalee High School, received a $1,000 scholarship to study construction management at Santa Fe College
- Corey Record, Naples High School, received a $500 scholarship to study mechanical or civil engineering at University of South Florida or Florida Gulf Coast University.
The Collier Building Industry Foundation (CBIF), a 501(c) 3 organization, was established in 2005 to operate the charitable arm of the Collier Building Industry Association (CBIA). CBIF`s mission is to provide housing-related educational activities, including assisting students in understanding and pursuing rewarding careers in home building and related trades.
The Collier Building Industry Foundation also provides annual scholarships to high school and college students pursuing careers in construction related fields. To date, the Foundation has provided over $80,000 to students pursuing careers in construction, architecture, engineering, interior design and related construction trades.
Founded in 1985, CBIA is an association of builders, remodelers, interior designers and other housing industry professionals. It is one of 800 state and local associations and operates under the auspices of the Florida Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders.
