Here at WCG, we understand that some stories are better understood if experienced. In this blog, we’d like to share a tool we use to implement the “you gotta see it to believe it” philosophy – it’s called the FAM (familiarization) trip.

WCG worked with the Collier County tourism bureau on behalf of our client The Local Restaurant to create a memorable FAM trip featuring a six-course luncheon to provide a select group of national travel writers with rich content to report on for the destination. Eight journalists dined on a wide assortment of Chef/Owner Jeff Mitchell’s farm-to-table menu of fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Sated writers were given a take-home goodie bag — festooned with a half-slice lemon Christmas ornament — containing a bottle of Chef Jeff’s prized house-made Florida pepper hot sauce.

The Local’s tasting repast was quickly cited in Southern Living magazine as one of the Top 10 Things You’re Missing on Florida’s Paradise Coast and touted as a hidden gem in The Daily Meal, reaching more than 6 million readers!
